Do you need to find out who your advisor is?

Log onto My.MissouriState.edu; on the left side of the page click on the link to Student Records.  From this page you can find out who your advisor is, with a link to email your advisor, what your student id (M#) is, what your major/minor is, what your degree is, and where you can review your advising notes and releases.

Do you need to be assigned an advisor?

Please contact the Academic Advisement Center or the Department of Media, Journalism, & Film office (Craig Hall 376, Tele: 417-836-5218). The Department's Administrative Assistant can help get an advisor assigned and you may always speak with the Department Head.

Are you a new transfer student?

If you a new transfer student, the links below will help, but also contact the Department of Media, Journalism & Film directly and make an appointment with the department head. Call our Administrative Assistant at 417-836-5218 or by e-mail, mjf@missouristate.edu to make an appointment.

Need help with re-evaluating how your media, journalism or film classes transferred?

You should contact the Department of Media, Journalism & Film at 417-836-5218 to schedule an appointment with the Assistant Department Head to do a transfer equivalency for Media, Journalism and Film classes. In all cases we require a complete catalog description of the course and in some cases a copy of the syllabus for the course is required. Once those materials are reviewed, the Assistant Department Head will contact you directly with the decision.

If you have concerns about how certain classes were evaluated when you enrolled in Missouri State University, you should contact the department office directly at 417-836-5218.

Are you an evening student?

If you need to meet with your advisor after 5:00 PM, please send an email to your faculty advisor to set up an appointment first. You can find the email addresses of your advisor on our website, follow the Faculty & Staff link.  Also, at any time, you may contact the department at 417-836-5218 to set up a meeting with the Department Head or to find an advisor if you cannot otherwise contact your advisor.

Do you want to know what classes are required for your degree program?

You may locate sample degree plans for each major in the Department of Media, Jouranlism & Film on our website, follow the link for to the degree program of your interest.

They can be printed to assist you in deciding what classes to enroll in or talk to your advisor about. However, you should be aware that your general education degree requirements are found in the university catalog.  Degree requirements that affect you are reflected in the catalog when you first attend the university. Your major requirements are "locked in" from the catalog in force during the semester that you are admitted to your degree program.

Are you having trouble contacting your advisor?

Please allow time for your advisor to get back to you. Some faculty are not on campus every day. If you have waited a reasonable amount of time and are still having trouble getting hold of your advisor, please contact the Department of Media, Journalism, & Film office (Craig 376) at 417-836-5218.
