Career Preparation
Programs offered through the Department of Media, Journalism & Film are designed to prepare students for various careers, including audio and video production, multimedia design, print and broadcast journalism, and media management. All also provide students with a solid foundation for graduate work.
Facilities
The Department of Media, Journalism & Film office is located in Craig Hall. Facilites operated by the department include an instructional television studio, a surround sound / music recording studio, radio production studio, Avid® Media Composer labs for media and digital film production, an Avid® NewsCutter lab for broadcast journalism, a DigiDesign Protools® post-production audio lab, and a print journalism lab. The department also oversees the student-run web radio station, TheGrowl, the student newspaper, The Standard, and the University Film Series. The University owns and operates KSMU-FM, a National Public Radio affiliate and KOZK-TV, Springfield's PBS affiliate.
Faculty
The department has 13 full-time faculty, many of whom have extensive professional experience in broadcast journalism, print journalism, screen writing, electronic media, television and film production.

Minors are available in Mass Media, Journalism, Film Studies, and Screen Writing. We also offer an undergraduate University Certificate in Writing for Television and Film.
Admissions to the Major
All students majoring in the department (except those seeking a major in Electronic Arts) must meet the following requirements before they can be admitted:
- Complete a minimum of 59 credit hours.
- Complete all General Educational Basic Required Courses.
- Have a combined GPA of 2.25 or higher across all classwork.
- Complete the departmental core courses and the core course for the Mass Media or Journalism option to which they are applying with a GPA of 3.00.
