Scholarships and Financial Aid

The media, journalism and film department offers a number of scholarships specifically for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a media, journalism and film-related degree. These scholarships are designed to support your studies at Missouri State and reward excellence in both the community and the classroom.

You may also qualify for additional University-wide scholarships or financial aid. The office of student financial aid provides information about University scholarships, grants and loans.

Bill Snyder Memorial Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior Journalism major demonstrating academic excellence.  Student must submit a letter of recommendation from a member of the Journalism Department faculty.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Chris Sifford Memorial Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded to a full-time student (sophomore or above) seeking a degree in either Journalism or in the Communication Department with an overall GPA of 3.0.  Preference given to residents of Boone, Cole, Audrain, Callaway, Moniteau, Cooper, Howard, Randolph, Stoddard, and Greene County in MO.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship is renewed automatically. The student can receive the scholarship for up to three years.

Darr Family Broadcast Journalism Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a Broadcast Journalism major.  Incoming freshman must demonstrate high school academic excellence and leadership, and current students must have an overall and departmental GPA of 3.0.  First preference should be given to incoming freshman.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Digital Film Production Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time Digital Film Production major.  Student must have completed at least 30 hours of credit and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Eddie Bass Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or greater pursuing a Journalism or Mass Media degree with an overall GPA of 3.0.  Awards made with regard for financial need.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Journalism Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time Journalism major that has completed at least 15 hours of credit and has a cumulative GPA of 3.0

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Media, Journalism and Film Department Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded to students seeking a degree in the Department of Media, Journalism, and Film.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Minrose Lucas Quinn Media Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to full-time junior or greater majoring in Media Journalism and Film with an overall GPA of 3.0 planning a career in radio, television, broadcasting, or film.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Ruth N. Dowling Memorial Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time student enrolled as a Journalism major.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship is renewed automatically. Student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Tom Dickson Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior majoring in Print Journalism with an overall and departmental GPA of 3.0.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal.
