Les Palmes de M. Schutz (1997)
DIRECTOR: Claude Pinoteau
CAST: Philippe Noiret; Charles Berling
SYNOPSIS
A humoristic view of the lives of Marie and Pierre Curie and their discoveries around radioactivity. Adapted from the play, which had run in Paris for a few years and had successfully drawn over million spectators.
NOTE
Les Palmes des Mon. Schutz was
one of the most popular plays ever in theater in France. Based
on the real stories of two famous scientists/couple Mr. and
Mrs. Curie. When it was adapted to film, it's Isabelle
opposite Charles Berling (for
the first
time)
and Phillipe
Noiret who played the leading characters. To my knowledge,
it's the only time that Isabelle plays a sweet, likeable, real-intelligent
woman/wife/mother. It's delighted to see Charles
Berline and
Isabelle play such a couple,
who have certain intimate moments which
are rarely seen on screen with Isabelle -
comparing her to Charles's painful wife in Les
Destinees Sentimentes or
his uptight sister in Comedy
of Innocence. Persons she has interpretated all have flaw
and weakness, except for Marie
Curie - a perfect human model - FORUM

TRIVIA
It was partly filmed in the original
lab where Marie Curie had worked. Two real Nobel Prizes winner
Georgres Charpak and Pierre Gilles de Gennes were in the film
- playing as a delivery man and a truck driver.
