NOTE
REHERSAL: ("Repeter,
toujours repeter", Le Figaro,
9 jan 2005)
Inlassable, Isabelle
L'assistant
texte la lui envoie. Elle rit, gamine. La
concentration profonde n'a jamais interdit la vigilance! Paradoxe
du comédien,
merveilleux mystère de l'incarnation et de l'illusion.
On STAGE: ("Heda
Gabler, Paris", Financial Times, Jan 21, 2005)
Isabelle Huppert is
grandiose, her Hedda the most
human, versatile and lucid that I remember. From her first entry, in red
velvet dressing gown, she brings limpid flippancy, whiplash ripostes and
suppressed violence to the better-known ennui that gradually consumes her.
Her desperate frustration and entrapment are
captured in every nuance, the body that flutters up to Lövborg but
cannot make the leap beyond the conventions she despises. Fragile,
passion repressed and outlets for her intelligence blocked, she
gazes outwards, emotions scudding across her face. Her capacity
for stillness, her tiny
gestures, reflect inner desolation: massage of neck muscles, imperceptible
shrugs, a helpless flutter of arms that fall aimlessly back to
her side, eyes devoid of spark.
Note: In Paris, the tickets are sold out long
before the start of the play - between Jan 13 to March 5. As demanded,
L'Odéon-Théâtre
de l'Europe à Paris decided to add four more shows on Saturday
afternoon 14:00 p.m. on Feburary 5, 12, 19 et 26.

Radio
France (http://www.radiofrance.com), 18 jan. 2005
Radio Inverview with Isabelle, Eric
Lacascade (director of Hedda
Gabler) and J. B. Pontails (philosopher
and psychanalysist).
(reference from Radios

Isabelle
Huppert ivre d'Hedda Gabler
Liberation, 15 jan. 2005
It is Hedda who pushes the fear of the other the
hatred of herself until her ultimate consequences. And it is Isabelle
Huppert who brings her imbalance, her faintness
and her force to the spectacle. As Actress of theatre, she shows
there with her extreme art of cold fusion,
at the same time familiar and distant, obstinately refusing to
draw on the sentimental cord. Seldom as here she will have given
the impression to be
let invade by her character at the point to lose her with it.
The more the spectacle advances, the more she seems to endorse
the desolation of Hedda,
this radical inaptitude with the happiness, which carries her with
a force impossible to control. Then, the stainless actress becomes
of an unsoundable
brittleness. So much so that one needs her smile for the hello
to be able to smile again. (from "Isabelle
Huppert ivre d'Hedda Gabler", Liberation,
