8 Femmes, the favorite of Les Césars 2003, has received most nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (both Fanny Ardant and Isabelle), Best Supporting Actress (Danielle Arrieux) and the Most Promising Actress (Ludivine Sagnier). The 28th Night of César, will be held on Saturday, February 22 at Theater of Châtelet in Paris.
Réponses Photos, a French monthly photo magazine, will devote 24 pages to Isabelle in its February issue.
"We wanted to bore the mystery of the photographee (Isabelle Huppert is one of the actresses who take the best light) and the mystery of creature", as the title of the project explained.
Five photographers photographed the most preceded actress in French cinema, during one or two hours meeting, without make-up, without hairdresser, under the "conditions close to the report." The shots took place whereas she rehearsed and played "4:48 psychosis" at Theater of Bouffes du Nord.
"Let us be frank. For me, the good photographs are in what I like", while laughing, Isabelle acknowledges in an interview. "I do not give up this point!".
Carole Bellaiche, the photographer, celebrates her twenty-five years of career, at the hotel of Soubise, and devotes a room particularly to her friend Isabelle Huppert - the "faithful actress, closely, each photo is the absolute portrait"'.
Isabelle in the car, Isabelle laying on tommettes, Isabelle handing on the plexus from Sarah Bernhardt, Isabelle running on a bridge... The make-up are impeccable, the astounding photogenic and the agreement between the model and the touching photographer. In short, sensitive and intimate. Director of "Lou Lou" Maurice Pialat Die at 77
2003.01.15
French director Maurice Pialat died on January 11 Saturday Night, surrounded by his wife and son, as well as Daniel Toscan du Plantier, Isabelle Huppert and Gérard Depardieu. The three remain close friends to Pialat for years.
Pialat is probably one of the most uncompromising and controversial film director in France. When accepting his Cannes Palm Award for the "Under the Sun of Satan" in 1987, facing to the booing from some audience, he said "If you don't like me, I would tell you I don't like you either."
Isabelle and Depardieu were cast together in Pialat's 1980 film "Lou Lou" - about a young woman Nelly who left her bourgeois husband for the unemployed sexual stud Depardieu. The film had a lot of troubles to make - took two years to finish and Depardieu refused to shoot the last scene, but it obviously gives Isabelle one of her finest roles.
"For me, Pialat is the cinéaste of the truth, the cinéaste of reality; He is not somebody who sought to transform it, or to transcend it, it is simply somebody who sought to tell it, to dig it, sometimes toward the pain but also toward happiness ", Isabelle entrusted to France Information. "He is somebody who sought to say of life. What interested to him was how people lived, how people were, how the relations was, to like, to hate, also to be an artist (...) For him, it was initially to live."
"He was a pessimist, a rebel, he knew what to make of his despair: films. He did not transform reality, he did not sublimate it: he told it. Maurice is no longer with us, I am sad," Isabelle told Le Monde's Saturday Edition.

2003.01.15
Now it's time to talk about Awards. In France, it's Les Césars. In USA, it's Oscar and Golden Globe. Isabelle, as usual, has several films released this year, and is one of top candidates for the Best Actress Award. By far, Isabelle won Kudos from San Francisco Film Critics, and is picked up as second Best Actress of the year by US National Society of Film Critics. Although neither "8 Women" nor "Piano Teacher" is nominated for Golden Globe Awards (which will be held on Jan. 19), Isabelle still has opportunity to be nominated for Oscar for the first time. The nominations will be announced on Feb. 11.
As for the domestic award - Les Cesars, "8 Femmes" should have multiple nominations without any doubt. The film is the top 10 question of 2002 in France, won the best ensemble cast at Berlin Film Festival and European Film Academy Award.
