When the film was first released in New York City on November 17, 1980, it was considered as a disaster by the critics. For which Isabelle always has opposite opinions. It's good to know what she thinks about the film after 26 years.

For those who admire Isabelle in the States, October is a good season to meet her in person in New York City.

Special Golden Lion
for Gabrielle
September 10, 2005

Outstanding Contribution to Cinema
2005.09.10

VENICE, Italy, Sept 10 (AFP) - Isabelle was awarded a rarely-given Special Golden Lion for her performance in Patrice Chereau's "Gabrielle" at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday.

Isabelle, who plays a woman trying to escape from a passionless marriage, accepted the award from jury chairman Dante Ferretti. "Venice brings me luck. There is no great role without a great director, so from the bottom of my heart I thank Patrice Chereau for the role of Gabrielle." Isabelle said, addressing the audience in Italian.

Instead of Best Actress - A Silver Lion, which this year is given to the Italian Actress Giovanna Mezzogiorno for her role as a woman beset by nighmares over childhood incest in "La Bestia nel Cuore" by Cristina Comincini, the Special Golden Lion rewards Isabelle rather for her Life Achivements than Gabrielle. She has won Silver Lion twice in the past. (go Forum for more)
