Many of our students submit and present papers at communication conferences. Undergraduate students have presented at the Oklahoma Sooners Communication Research Conference and DePauw University Undergraduate Research Conference. Graduate students have presented at the National Communication Association Annual Convention and the Central States Communication Association.
Communication events also provide experiential learning for our students.
Through many of your communication courses, you'll work with nonprofit and community organizations to create applied communication projects. These service-learning experiences allow you to gain valuable professional experience, and the resulting projects make excellent additions to your portfolio. While many service-learning experiences are already integrated into coursework (particularly within the public relations curriculum), you can add a service-learning component to any class.
You are also encouraged to get involved with professional associations, which provide you with continuing education, professional development, networking and presentation opportunities.
In addition, you might consider completing an independent study project with a faculty member. These opportunities may include event planning and research projects, and course credit is often available.
Use resources around campus to aid your academic journey.
